Last updated ยท 31 August 2026

SOKORIDER ("we", "us", "our") operates a courier and delivery marketplace in your operating country (๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ญ Ghana). This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

1. Information we collect

  • Account data: name, phone number, email, password hash, and profile photo.
  • Delivery data: pickup and drop-off addresses, recipient name and phone, package details, weight and notes.
  • Location data: rider live GPS while on a delivery, and customer device location when explicitly granted.
  • Payment data: wallet balance, transaction history, and references for local payment rails (Paystack, and Mobile Money where supported). We never store full card numbers.
  • KYC (riders): Ghana Card number, ID photos, driver licence, and vehicle details for verification.
  • Cash handling (riders): cash collected on delivery, remittance amounts and references, proof-of-payment uploads, float and outstanding balance, and reconciliation outcomes.
  • Merchant business data: business name and address, registration or trading number, storefront and menu content, product and inventory records, in-store (POS) sales, staff accounts and their POS permissions, payout bank or Mobile Money details, commission and settlement records.
  • Fleet applications: company name, registration number, contact person, fleet size, vehicle and rider details, supporting documents, and payout account details submitted for verification.
  • Technical data: device type, IP address, app version, crash logs.

2. How we use your data

  • To match customers with nearby verified riders.
  • To process payments via Paystack and supported local rails.
  • To enable live tracking, in-app messaging, and dispute review.
  • To reconcile cash collected on delivery against rider remittances, and to settle merchant and fleet payouts.
  • To meet legal, tax, and anti-fraud obligations under country-specific regulations in Ghana.
  • To improve service quality and prevent abuse.

3. Rider cash collection and remittance

When a delivery is paid in cash, the rider records the amount collected in the app. Each collection and each remittance is written to an immutable cash ledger that the rider, our finance team and (for the order value only) the merchant can see. We keep the remittance reference, any proof-of-payment image you upload, the reconciliation result, and the rider's running outstanding balance. Riders can see their own full ledger at any time in Rider โ†’ Cash. We use this data to confirm money owed, flag shortfalls, and resolve disputes; it is financial record-keeping and cannot be deleted on request while a balance is open or within the statutory retention period.

4. Merchant payments, POS and payouts

For merchants we process order revenue, platform commission, refunds, and payouts. Payout bank or Mobile Money details are stored encrypted, are never shown to riders or customers, and are visible only to the merchant owner and the finance staff who approve settlements. Paystack credentials and tokens belonging to a merchant are stored server-side only and are never returned to a browser or app. In-store (POS) sales, inventory movements, shift records and staff actions are logged for reconciliation and are visible to that merchant's owner and the staff members whose role permits it. Changes to payout details require re-verification and are recorded in an audit log.

5. Fleet partner applications

Information submitted at /become-a-fleet-partner โ€” including company details, documents and payout accounts โ€” is used solely to verify the applicant and, if approved, to create the fleet owner account and settle commission. Applications are readable only by our authorised review staff. Rejected applications and their documents are deleted within 12 months unless we are required to keep them for fraud-prevention or legal reasons. Approved fleet owners can see the riders in their fleet, those riders' job and earnings records, and their own payout history โ€” but not customer payment details.

6. Sharing

We share data with the rider assigned to your delivery (name, phone, pickup/drop-off), the merchant fulfilling your order, Paystack and supported Mobile Money providers (for payments and payouts), Google Maps (for routing and address autocomplete), our email and messaging providers (for receipts and delivery updates), and law enforcement when legally compelled. Fleet owners receive delivery and earnings data for their own riders only. We do not sell your personal data.

7. Retention

Order, payment, and KYC records are retained for at least 7 years to comply with local laws on financial and tax record-keeping in Ghana. You may request deletion of your account; we will anonymise non-mandatory data within 30 days.

8. Your rights and account deletion

Under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent. You can delete your account yourself from Settings โ†’ Delete account inside the app, or email privacy@sokorider.com to exercise these rights. Deletion removes your profile, addresses, device tokens and messages. Financial records โ€” order totals, cash remittances, merchant payouts and commission lines โ€” are retained in anonymised form for the statutory period described in section 7, and an account with an open cash balance or unsettled payout cannot be closed until it is cleared.

9. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest. Access is limited to authorised personnel and protected by row-level security in our database.

10. Children

SOKORIDER is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

11. Changes

We will notify you in-app of material changes to this policy.
